Mother

Teresa

1910 — 1997

Mother Teresa, born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in Skopje (now the capital of North Macedonia), was a Catholic nun and missionary renowned for her humanitarian work with the poorest of the poor in Kolkata (Calcutta), India, and around the world.

After joining the Sisters of Loreto at a young age, she took the name Sister Teresa and began her missionary work in India in 1929. In 1950, she founded the Missionaries of Charity, a religious congregation dedicated to serving the sick, the destitute, and the dying. The organization grew rapidly, establishing centers around the world to provide care for those in need.

Mother Teresa gained international acclaim for her selfless devotion to the marginalised and suffering. She received numerous awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, for her compassionate service to humanity. Her legacy continues to inspire people of all faiths and backgrounds to dedicate themselves to acts of love, compassion, and service to others. Mother Teresa was canonised as a saint by the Catholic Church in 2016.
