Albert

Einstein

1879 — 1955

Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany, to a secular Jewish family. He was a brilliant student and attended the Swiss Federal Polytechnic Institute in Zurich, where he received his doctorate in physics in 1905.

Einstein's work on the special theory of relativity revolutionized our understanding of space and time. He showed that space and time are not separate entities, but are instead part of a single continuum called spacetime. He also showed that mass and energy are equivalent, as expressed by the famous equation E = mc2.

Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921 for his work on the photoelectric effect. He is considered one of the most influential physicists of all time, and his work has had a profound impact on our understanding of the universe.
